One of the most treasured pilgrimage in Hinduism all over India - Badrinath is one of the Char Dham – the four divine seats of lord. Apart from the religious activities, it is a treat to the eyes for all nature lovers with serving gigantic mountains, glittering snow and the ‘Panch Dharas’.
The Bhrigu Dhara is one among them, a sacred stream that carries the legacy of ancient times.
Flowing through the caves of Badrinath, Bhrigu Dhara represents the powerful sage Bhrigu who did severe austerities in this region.
Sage bhrigu is the writer of Bhrigu Nadi Jyothisjya that predicts future on the basis of genetic code. Sage Bhrigu is well known for his wisdom as well as aggressiveness. Once there was war between the Devas and Asuras and as usual the Devas ended up defeating the Asuras. Humiliated, Shukracharya, the Guru of the asuras, decided to approach Shiva to obtain the mantra to make Asuras unbeatable. He started doing severe penance while, the Asuras went to take refuge at the ashram of Bhrigu under the patronage of Kavyamata, who was the mother of Shukracharya. The Devas found the absence of Shukracharya, a most favourable time to strike upon the asuras once again. However, Bhrigu himself being away, the Asuras asked Kavyamata to help. Using her powers, she made the Devas freeze. Devastated, the Devas asked Lord Vishnu to help. Vishnu took the form of a beast and attacked her, when she retaliated, he was compelled to kill her with his sudarshana chakra. When sage Bhrigu returned, on seeing the condition of his wife, he frowned and cursed that Vishnu will be born on earth several times and suffer the pains of worldly life. Vishnu took birth on Earth in the form of avatar multiple times but instead of suffering, he served the mankind.
Bhrigu rishi was a great sage whose daughter Shri Laxmi is married to Lord Vishnu. With his great penance, he became one with Brahman and became Brahmarishi.
The tales associated with Dharas tells us that whatever time it may be, the supreme Being will always be there to protect us, bless us with a good well being and prosperity.
