Chaukhutia – An Explorer’s Delight

 

Chaukhutia, an unspoiled town, is located at a height of 1646 m above the sea level. Cradled on the banks of River Ramganga, the town is revered in Uttarakhand’s Almora district. This small town is well-known for its historical and religious importance. It is dotted with many old forts and ancient temples. The town also has ruins of the Katyuri dynasty that narrate some untold stories of past. Whether you want to indulge in spiritual bliss or admire the spectacular views, you can do it all in Chaukhutia.

Chaukhutia is a perfect place to visit in winters especially between October and February. The town experienced chilled winters with heavy snowfall.

The town derives its unique name from “Chau-khut,” a Kumaoni word meaning four feet. Here four feet refers to four directions or ways. The first direction is to Ramnagar, second to Karanprayag, third to Ranikhet, and fourth to Tadagtaal.

Chaukhutia is located at a 55km distance from Almora. This place is easily reachable via road. The closest railway station is nearly 88 km far at Kathgoadam, while the nearest airport is 112 km away at Pantnagar. No matter what means of transport you choose, you need to complete your final journey to Chaukutiya through the road.
