The Kuteti Devi Temple has an interesting story linked to it which states that the Lota king once lost his bag filled with money on his pilgrimage to Gangotri. He got upset as he wasn’t able to meet his daily expenses. When the disheartened king of Kota returned to Uttarkashi, he prayed at Vishwanath Temple. The king promised to get his daughter married to any appropriate boy from that village if the bag was found. The King got happy and he then requested the priest to get an appropriate match for his own daughter. The princess was soon married to a suitable boy selected by the priest. But the princess was a little unhappy as this marriage would keep her away from their family’s deity – Kuteti Devi. So, the princess with her husband prayed to Kuteti Devi to get a suitable solution. As a result, Goddess Kuteti Devi came in their dream and asked them to look for her idol in their fields in the shape of a stone. After the dream, they started looking for the stone and found 3 stones in their field with blissful aroma, Hence, Kuteti Devi Temple was constructed at the place where the stones were found.
