Usually tourists take a direct route from Karna Prayag to move to Nandaprayag, only 18 kms away. Emerging from the feet of Nanda Devi Peak at 1358 mts altitude, this second prayag among the Panch Prayags mesmerizes tourists with its beautiful and scenic flow!

Historically, this Prayag was once the capital of Yadu Kingdom and it is said that King Nanda performed Yagna on a stone, which was later sculpted as Nanda Temple. Lord Vishnu answered his prayers granting him the blessings of a son. His devotees Vasudeva and Devaki also received the blessings of a son that was brought up by Nanda and Yashoda as Krishna. The birth of Lord Krishna was the result of the ritual that was performed by King Nanda. There is a Gopala temple nearby dedicated to Krishna. Entering into this temple experiences us with history and divinity at the same time.

Bairas Kund Mahadev temple is also nearby, some 7.5 km away where Ravana sought the blessings of Mahadev by dedicating his ten heads.

Nandaprayag is also revered as a site for performing last rites among devout Hindus.
