Overview

Simdega is the city that highly forms one of the Indian States of Jharkhand. It is rising slowly on educational grounds. This is at the tertiary level as the Christian Missionaries are at the forefront of introducing schools and other educational centers. The contribution towards these educational institutions is being done by the Catholic Churches. The higher education system is still on the list of planning as there are Ranchi and other affiliated universities that are taking the place.

The land here is used exclusively for agriculture and cultivation. Wheat, maize, groundnut, and black gram are the main crops that are being harvested on a large scale. This proves that the land of Simdega is rich with nutrients that are being raised naturally. It is a breeding ground for cattle. Animal husbandry is carried out exclusively where there are complete management and care of cattle.

Christmas is pompously celebrated, as the area is dominated by the Christian community. It is enjoyed with total spree by carol songs and Christian Mass. The gatherings vibrate the festivity mood as the houses and streets are decorated with lights and lamps. There is another festival that is being enjoyed by the people of Simdega. This Harvest festival is called Naukhai. The people mark this festival as a welcome to Rice, which is their staple diet. This happens on the fifth day of Lunar fortnight called the Panchami Tithi: to be more precise in August- September after the Great Ganesh Chaturthi.

Another unique feature is that Simdega encourages sports. It is also called the "cradle of hockey" as it is the home ground for this national festival. Various sports personalities have been known to win medals in Olympic games who have their origin in Simdega. Sylvanus Dung Dung is one of the personalities who had won Gold medal in the 1980 Olympic games. The 1972 Olympics have yet another personality named Michael Kindo who made the country proud by winning bronze. Simdega is the native to the captain of the National Women's Hockey team.
