Overview

Apart from its pious tales of devotees and God, Uttarakhand is famous for its giant mountains, glittering treks with snow and of course the serenity. One such trek is the Bugyal Trek of Chamoli district.  With an altitude of 3,354 meters above the sea level, Bedni Bugyal brings the varied colors and diversified splendors of nature and is famous for wild high altitude flowers and herbs during the early spring and the splendid view of the Greater Himalayan range that includes the Chaukhamba mountains, Maiktoli, Mrigthuni besides the enthralling Mt. Trishul.

The trek that takes you through the tall Oaks, walnut and Rhododendron trees of Ghairoli Patal forests that also have pear trees, Himalayan rose bushes and several other florae will leave you enchanted. Magpies and Flycatchers offer the surround sound during the trek to the vast greens.

One of the most beautiful meadows of India, Bedni Bugyal provides a breathtaking view of majestic snow covered Trishul Peak and Nanda Ghunti. Varied culture and diversified nature can be seen during the trek and the reflection of Trishul Peak on the clear water of Neel Ganga and from the dense forests of Ghairoli Patal is purely enchanting.

 

Also known as one of the largest grassland of Asia, Bedni Bugyal serves as a sacred pilgrim site where Ma Nanda and Mahadev are worshipped. A large palanquin of Ma Nanda is carried from Bedni Bugyal to Roopkund during the renowned Nanda Devi Raj Jat, which takes place once in every twelve years.

 

Vaitarni Lake (Bedini Kund) in this region has the most famous yet rare flower known as Brahma Kamal,  the lotus of Brahma. Also known as the ‘Life giving Lotus’ and the ‘Golden Lotus’, this flower is a medicinal herb and also considered as a charm of luck if a person sees it bloom.

 

To take a break from the hustling and busy city life, Bedni Bugyal, an enchanting meadow is surely a delight for all the nature lovers. Devbhoomi is no less than a dream to watch with all its beautiful flora and fauna, glorious view of the mountains and yet is so peaceful and calm.
