Vishnuprayag, one of the Panch prayags, located at a height of 1372 m is a confluence of Dhauliganga and Alakananda rivers that is near Joshimath, Chamoli district on the way to Badrinath located in Uttarakhand. The illustrious and divine scenery mesmerizes the soul at the confluence of twinkling grayish sparkly Alakananda originating from Satpanth and Dhauliganga that is flowing down from Niti valley.
As per the historical scriptures, the Sophic sage Narada exacting accomplished by sadhna of “ashtakshari - Om namo narayanaya” the appearance of a beaming Lord Vishnu. The presence of Lord Vishnu for the mettle tenacity of Narada is the heraldry here.
The aristocratic Maratha ruler Malhar Rao Holkar’s equerry daughter-in law who reigned as the Maharani of Indore, Ahilyabai Holkar built the Vishnu temple. Resting on a hillock, the temple stands just above the confluence. The stairways from the temple routes us towards the Vishnu Kund at the confluence streaming.
The Vishnu temple façade is built of stone with arched windows surrounded by the music of streaming Ganges and two massive mountains called as, the left one “Nar” and the right one “Narayan” that can be seen at Vishnuprayag.
Realms of rocks and cliffy noisy beats of air through hearty walls of mountains makes us feel like listening to the beautiful new phonics of rhythms like ballads. The Kagbhusandi Tal nearby is a serene lake that reflects the scenic mountains. Vishnuprayag offers several activities such as white water rafting, trekking, canoeing and kayaking.
