Overview



Auden's Col is nestled in the central Garhwal region, which is one of the highest mountain passes in India. It spans across two glaciers on both the sides, i.e., Jogin Glacier on the north and Khatling glacier on the south.  This pass also combines the Bhilangana valley and Rudragaira valley. It is one of the toughest trails in India and is a dream trekking destination for all the avid trekkers. The path through dense forests, the Himalayan peaks, flower beds, dangerous moraines, and narrow cliffs will enhance your adventure. You will also find several Hindu pilgrimage sites and shrines on this trip.

 

Auden's Col Trek is suitable only for highly experienced trekkers who are physically fit and can face the challenges during the excursion. You need to acclimatize in high altitude regions and know how to use mountaineering gear.

About the journey

 

During Auden's Col trek, you will cross the thick alpine forests, gushing streams, meadows lined with varied sorts of flowers, and numerous villages. This strenuous trail will offer you the magnificent view of the towering peaks, such as the Jogin, Rudragaira, Kedar Dome, and Bhagirathi.

The trek demands acclimatization as you will trek through high altitude locations. Along with this, you will traverse a few challenging narrow cliffs, moraines, and winding paves. You will also cross the extensive glaciers such as Khatling Glacier at an elevation of about 4,200 m.

 

Travel to and from the trek

 

You can reach Auden's Col via Uttarkashi by boarding a bus from Haridwar. Buses are accessible only early morning. You can also book shared jeep or car to reach Uttarkashi.

Itinerary

Day 1 : Delhi - Haridwar - Rishikesh

Reach Haridwar from Delhi. On arrival, you will drive to Rishikesh with our tour representative. Rest of the day at leisure to explore the region.

Day 2 : Rishikesh - Uttarkashi

After early morning breakfast, you will drive to Uttarkashi that is a gateway to several trekking excursions. You can wander around the neighboring area on your own in the evening.

Day 3 : Uttarkashi - Gangotri

After breakfast, drive towards Harsil and Bhairon Ghati to reach Gangotri. There you can visit the Gangotri temple and the Goddess Ganga temple.

Day 4 : Gangotri - Nala Camp

Today you will begin your real adventure. You will trek along the left of the valley while climbing and crossing the forest of birch and pine trees. You will also witness picturesque views of the Jogin and Kedartal range. Reach Nala camp near Rudragaira River.

Duration: 5 - 6 hrs

Day 5 : Nala Camp - Rudra Gaira Base Camp

Today morning you will ascend a ridge and cross a stream. Further, take a steep ascend to reach the Rudra Gaira base camp. During the trek, picturesque views of Jogin peak, Rudragaira peak, and Auden Col pass will be the treat to eyes. Relax the rest of the day.

Day 6 : Rudugaira BC - B C Gangotri Group

This day is all about trekking through moraine and technical surface. The path is gradual throughout but challenging at times. Refresh your mind with the stunning views of Gangotri I, II & III peaks.

Day 7 : B C Gangotri Group - Auden Col BC

Get ready to involve in a challenging trek as you did last day. Trek on the moraine to reach the Auden Col base camp.

Duration: 5-6 hrs

Day 8 : Auden Col Base Camp - Khatling Glacier

Early morning, continue your trek along the challenging glacier till the pass. You will need a rope to cross the pass. The thrilling route will be blessed with remarkable scenes of encompassing greater Himalayas.

 

Further, with the help of technical gear, carefully go down on the other side of the pass. Continue the trek for a few more hours on the glacier to reach camp. Spend the day to rest and relax your tiring muscles.

Day 9 : Khatling Glacier - Waterfall Camp/Zero Point

After breakfast, trek along the glacier that again requires technical gear to complete. Further, trail across the moraine and descend to the nearby river.

Day 10 : Waterfall Camp/Zero Point - Chowki

Today you will trek along the river until the open meadows. Keep trekking till you arrive at pleasant Chowki.

Duration: 4-5 hrs

Day 11 : Chowki - Masar Tal

Today you will take a steep ascend and descend till the ridge facing the valley. Spend the rest of the day at the close by beautiful Marsar Tal while soaking in the refreshing vibe.

Duration: 6-7 hrs

Day 12 : Masar Tal - Vasuki Tal

Continue the trek with the ascend to reach the ridge. The crisscross trail will take you to the charming lake of Vasukital. Enjoy the day around the mesmerizing lake and capture stunning photos.

Duration: 6-7 hrs

Day 13 : Vasuki Tal - Kedarnath

Today you will trek towards one of the famous pilgrimage centers of India where you will feel the spiritual essence of Hindu culture. Downhill trail for a couple of hours will land you at Kedarnath. Visit the Kedarnath temple dedicated to Lord Shiva in the evening.

Duration: 3 hrs

Day 14 : Kedarnath - Gaurikund - Rudraprayag

Early morning, descend to reach Gaurikund. You will traverse the village of Rambara during the trek. Continue the downward trail to land at Gaurikund. Your trekking journey ends here.

 

After that, on the edge of the confluence of river Alaknanda and Mandakini, you will take a drive towards Rudraprayag.

Duration: Trek 3-4 hrs and drive 4 hrs

Day 15 : Rudraprayag - Haridwar - Delhi

Begin the last day of the expedition by taking a holy dip at the confluence of the rivers. After breakfast, drive towards Rishikesh via another convergence Devprayag from where starts the sacred Ganges.

 

Your tour representative will transfer you to the Haridwar station to board a train for your way back home.
