It even features Mount Trishul which appears in the form of a consecrated trident of Trishul. Then there is Mount Kamet which is the revered peak of the Hindus. The main base camp of the Brahmatal trek is Lohagunj. It is believed that this was the place where Goddess Parvati fought with Lohasur and even killed him. The name of the place Lohagunj comes from Jung, which means Fight and the name of the demon Lohasur.

Located in Chamoli in Garhwal region of Uttarakhand, the summit provides a wonderful 360° view of different peaks lined up close. There are several peaks that the trekkers can see during their Brahmatal trekking expedition. These include Kumaon, Trishul, Hathi-Ghoda and Nanda Devi ranges. Travel To and From the Brahmatal Trek

Lohagunj is the base camp for Brahmatal trek. But because Kathgodam is better connected with the other cities like Dehradun and Delhi, it is used as the starting and endpoint of the trek.

  • There are both direct and indirect flights available to and from Pantnagar Airport to different airports across the nation. This is the nearest airport to Kathgodam. The airport lies at a distance of 30 kilometres from Kathgodam which means it is a 1-hour drive. There are shared cabs, private cars and buses available from the airport. Once you reach Kathgodam, private cars and buses are available for Lohagunj. This will be an eight to ten hour's drive as Lohagunj lies at a distance of 250 kilometres from Kathgodam. The drive will take you through the serene and mesmerizing towns of Kausani, Ranikhet, Dewal and Gwaldam.
  • There are many trains also connecting Kathgodam to the other cities of India. Kathgodam railway station is the nearest railway station to Lohagunj.

Itinerary

Day 1 : Kathgodam to Lohagunj

Driving from Kathgodam to reach Lohagunj, which is 250 kilometres away. This will take 10 hours by car.

Day 2 : Lohagunj to Bekhal Tal

Trekking to Bekhal Tal at a distance of 6 kilometres. You will take approximately 4 to 5 hours to reach this place.

Day 3 : Bekhal tal to Bhramatal

Trekking to the Bhramatal which is 6 kilometres away again taking you 4 to 5 hours.

Day 4 : Bhramatal to Khamila Top

Trekking to Khamila Top or Jatropani from Bhramatal and returning to Bhramatal camp. It is at a distance of 8 kilometres and will take six to seven hours of the total journey.

Day 5 : Khamila Top to Lohagunj

Trekking back to Lohagunj which is 12 kilometres away. It will take 6 to 7 hours.

Day 6 : Lohagunj to Haridwar

Driving back to Haridwar from Lohagunj. The place lies at a distance of 280 kilometres taking 12 hours to reach.
