Historical Reference

 

The historical reference of the Chandrakhani Pass is of a thousand years. According to a Hindu legend, Jamlu, the deity presiding over Manala, was carrying a basket. In the basket, which was with Jamlu, are the Gods of Kullu. On the peak of the mountains, Jamlu opened the basket.  because of a strong wind, all the Gods spread across the valley of Kullu. 'Valley of Gods' is the common name for the valley.

 

About The Journey

 

The start pointing of the journey is Manali. From the Manali, you have to go to Naggar Village to start your trek.  Through the trek, you will pass many beautiful forests and mountain ranges. You will be awestruck with the beauty surrounding you on the trek. The trail contains many places of historical significance in the Naggar village.

 

There will be many highlights of the Chandrakhani Pass trek. You will see many magnificent sights in front of you on the trek. Adding to these will be the Manala river, which you will pass on the way to Jari from Manali. With the river, you will also see the Parvathi Valley.

 

Arriving at the starting point: Naggar Village

 

The starting point or the base camp of the Chandrakhani trek pass is Naggar Village. There are many ways in which you can reach Naggar village from Manali. You can choose any of the options and reach Naggar village to start the Chandrakhani Pass trek. There's no railways or air connection directly to Naggar, which means you will have to get to the nearest airports to the area. The closest airport is the Kullu-Manali Airport at Bhuntar, and the closest railway station is at Joginder Nagar. Bhuntar and Joginder Nagar are close to Naggar Village.

 

Option 1:

By Air: Naggar is a village with no airports. The closest airport to the village is the Kullu-Manali Airport in Bhuntar. It's at a distance of around thirty-one kms from the base. You can catch a taxi from the airport to Naggar village.

Option 2:

By Bus: if you want to reach Naggar village by bus, you can take the HRTC buses. There are many direct private buses or  HRTC buses to Manali. From Manali, Naggar village is merely 22 km away. You can hail a taxi from Manali to Naggar.

Option 3:

By Train: The third option that you can choose to reach Naggar is by trains. There is no station at the base of the trek. The closest railway station is Joginder Nagar, which is 145 km from Naggar.

Itinerary

Day 1 : Manali to Naggar to Rumsu to Ganachalani

On the first day of your trek, start your journey by making your way from Manali to Naggar. Start the trip early, so that you can cover the 21 km easily and fast. From Naggar, you have followed the trail to reach Rumsu. There are many cottages along the 1km road that leads to Rumsu. From Rumsu, the forest trail will lead you to Ganachalani. You will stay the night in Ganachalani. The forest is rich in many different types of trees like chestnut, pine, and deodar.

Distance: 15kms

Day 2 : Ganachalani to Celanti

On the second day of your trek, you can start the journey early in the picturesque valley of Ganachalani. Continue your journey by following a trail of 4 km and then open meadows. In the open fields, you will witness many shepherds with their herds of sheep. The meadows extend up to Pir Panjal Range and Kullu valley. There's another forest trail that eventually leads to Celanti. You can stay the night in Celanti.

Day 3 : Celani to Chandrakhani Pass to Dadru to Manala

On the third day, you can start the journey at Celanti for the Chandrakhani Pass. You will start the trip early to catch the magical views from the peak. You can see the Ghalpo peaks of Lahaul Dharamsura and Papsura. From the Chandrakhani Pass, Dadru is around 2- 3 km. From Dadru, you can follow the trial to Manala. It's a river trail which is along the river Manala river. The way leads to two places- Parvati Valley and Rashol Pass. Manala is a beautiful village which has a small number of families. The stay for the night is in Manala.

Day 4 : Manala to Jari to Manali

The ending of your trek starts at Manala. You can begin the journey by following a trail to Jari. There are many beautiful forests on the way to Jari.  There's a new dam across the Manala river. The trek towards the dam will take around 2 hours.  From Jari to Manali, it's a six-hour drive.
