Overview

Devalgarh, a hilly town, is located in Uttarakhand’s Pauri district. Located 15 km from Khirsu, Devalgarh is another famous tourist destination. In the 16th century AD, Devalgarh was Garhwal Kindom’s capital before Srinagar. Because of its regal past, it is popular for its adored temples, mainly Gaura Devi Temple that displays the ancient and unique Garhwali architecture.

Devoted to Goddess Parvati, the Gaura Devi Temple was built by Lord Kuber in the 7th century AD. It is also known as to be as old as Badrinath and Kedarnath. It is situated at 10 kms only from Srinagar to Rudraprayag and is highly popular among the locals and pilgrims alike. Lord Kuber who earned Devi’s blessing made this temple. It is an exclusive example of the Garhwal architectural legacy. The figures that are engraved in this temple and the stunning views of the Himalayas from the temple are striking and exceptional. Pillars of this temple are known to be constructed from one stone only without any joints. In the harvest season, a large fair is held here. The locals of the village offer chapatis made out of fresh wheat as a gratitude to the deity.
