Kotdwar is a small city situated on the foothills of Shivaliks. It is a tehsil in Pauri Garhwal district, Uttarakhand and is a well-known entrance to the hills of the Pauri area. Famous as “Gateway To Garhwal,” Kotdwar is the gateway to the Khoh river. The city is nestled on the slope of towering Himalayas and offers visitors with the panoramic beauty of closeby settlements. Kotdwar is mainly famous for its sacred Sidhbali Temple located at 2km only from Kotdwar. The temple, devoted to Lord Hanuman, is visited by thousands of pilgrims all around the year.

 

Though Kotdwar is popular mainly as a religious spot, it’s frequented by many landscape photographers and weekend travelers due to the divine beauty it offers with its surrounding mountains and deep valleys. Kotdwar generally has a moderate temperature, however it differs from tropical, from warm in summers to cold, based on the season.

Initially, Kotdwar was ruled by the Mauryan empire under Great Ashoka. Later Katyuri dynasty took over the rule followed by Garhwal’s Panwar Dynasty. Afterward came the Gurkhas. They ruled the area for nearly 12 long years. Later the British took control of the region by defeating the Gurkhas. The Railway Station of Kotdwar was established by the Britishers and thus is known to be one of the oldest ones in India.

Situated in Pauri Garhwal district, Uttarakhand, Kotdwar is a striking city that sits on the bank of Khoh river. Surrounded by deep valleys and green hills, it has many attractive places both for the pilgrims and the tourists.

Kotdwar is connected very nicely by rail networks to Delhi, Lucknow, and Howrah. There is an outstanding road network too which connects all the cities with major spots of Uttarakhand. The nearest airport to Kotdwar is the Jolly Grant Airport located at 110 km.
