Lansdowne was developed mainly by the British to cater to the Recruits Training Center. In 1887, when the very first battalion of Garhwal Rifles migrated to Lansdowne from Almora, the place was changed into a cantonment and the Recruits training Center was introduced. The calmness and serenity of the place made it a perfect escape for the troopers and troops to hide in.
