
Chaukhutiya is a small town in the Almora District, Uttarakhand. Situated on the banks of Ramganga river, the town derives its name from “Chau-khut,” Kumaoni word which means 4 feet. This small village is widely known for its historical and religious significance due to its old forts, ancient temples, and the remains of the Katyuri dynasty. A group of temples is found here which dates back to the 9th century AD. One of them is the Kali Temple also known as the Angeri Temple.
Kali Temple is nearly half km from the Chaukhutia town. Also called Angeri Devi Temple, this temple is dedicated to Goddess Kali. An Ashtami Mela is held every year at this temple where thousands of people see animal sacrifices like goats and buffaloes. It is organized in March or April. You can visit the Kali temple to indulge yourself in spiritual and divine bliss. The Kali Temple is a real explorer delight as you can traverse via the picturesque temple and give great pleasure to your eyes.
