The literal meaning of Bhavishya Badri is the “Badrinath of the Future”. Whe Adi shankaracharya found the idol of Bhavishya Badri temple in Tapt Kund, there was a prophecy that at the end of Kalyug, the arm of the Narasingha idol at Narsingh Badri, Joshimath will fall off and the mountains of Nar and Narayan will collapse making the present shrine of Badrinath inaccessible. This would result in Badrinath’s reappearance in Bhavishya Badri and the consequent worship of Lord Badrinath will be at Bhavishya Badri. This will happen after Lord Vishnu destroys the world by ending Kalyug in his Kalki incarnation and Satyug begins again.

The temple houses the quadrangular idol of Lord Vishnu that is emerging naturally on one rock. This self forming idol of the future Badri is growing every year.

Adi Shankaracharya was the man who built these temples. However, Adi Shankaracharya has been credited for constructing several temples in the Uttarakhand region. He actually wanted to propagate Hinduism in every remote part of India and this was the purpose of the construction of these temples by Adi Shankaracharya.

Once, Lord Vishnu lived in Tibet but the residents of Tibet when started indulging in bad habits of taking meat, alcohol and became chaotic, then Lord Vishnu decided to leave Tibet and he started searching a proper place for his residence. And during his search in the Himalayas, he liked this place and promised to make this place of Himalayas his future adobe and since then this places is called Bhavishya Badri.
