One among the five holy confluences or the Panch Prayags of Uttarakhand, Dev Prayag is encircled by three mountains Giddhanchal Parvat, Dashrathanchal Parvat and the one named after Narsingh avtar, the Narsinghanchal Parvat. The town itself is divided into three parts. The part with the main bus stand is called the Shanti Bazar, the part lying down near Highway Number 58 is the Beech Bazar while the part of the town on the side of the Pauri is the Bah Bazar. Walking a few miles from the bridge, we enter into Raghunath ji Temple, one of the prominent shrines of Lord Rama, which cannot be ignored, it is a must visit to take Lord Rama’s blessings! Later, at the Dasharathachal Peak, is the holy rock Dashrathshila, named after Dasharath, father of Lord Rama and a small stream originating from Dasharathachal, is Shanta, named after Lord Rama’s sister. This place is worth a visit due to its piousness, for reminding us of our history of shrines and develop a positive vibe inside our souls. It is here that King Dasaratha performed his penance. By now you should have known that, Devprayag is a place that has combination of temples and River flows. Every now and then hills are surrounded with rivers and ancient shrines. One among is Chandrabandani Temple, temple of Lord Sati Devi, It is said that torso of Goddess Sati devi along with her weapons fell all over the place. This temple is situated at a height of 2277 meters above sea level, giving us a beautiful view of Garhwal Hills and Kedarnath, Badrinath and Surkanda peaks. Besides, there are the Dhaneshwar Mahadev Temple, Mata Bhuvneshwari temple in Pundal village and Danda Nagaraja temple. On the way from Prayag one never misses Teen Dhara which is located on the adjoining highway of Devaprayag and Rishikesh. Dev Prayag is where sage Devsharma led his ascetic life. After years of penance, he had a glimpse of God and brought glory to this holy town making Dev Prayag an important place of pilgrimage for devout Hindus. Building its own history, Devaprayag is the town of Pandits who came ages back along with Guru Adisankaracharya embarking the holiness all around the place. The Pandas or the priests come here during the winter months from Badrinath. Let me tell you a secret, though Devprayag is popularly known as the Alankanda and Bhagirathi confluence, but there is another river that belongs to this confluence named Saraswati. Originating from Mana Village that is part of Badrinath, this underground river flows from the feet of Shri Raghunath Ji in Devprayag, at the Raghunath Temple. Also the "Ram Kunda" has the footprints of Lord Rama making it a site of great religious importance.
