Overview



Perched in Chamoli District of Uttarakhand, Valley of flowers is an Indian National Park. This UNESCO world heritage site is an epitome of natural beauty loaded with a wide species of flora and fauna. Every year this famous trekking destination allured a lot of trekking lovers, nature photographers, and botanists alike. The National park sprawls around an area of 87.50 sq. Km and lies at the height of 3,858 m. The tranquil aura of the Valley of Flowers is a heaven for every visitor.

In the Valley of Flowers, you get to witness the exotic range of flowers. Apart from this, you can even spot some endangered species birds and animals like musk deer, snow leopard, Asiatic black bear, pheasant, Himalayan monal, amongst others.

Historical references to the trek

On the way towards Mt Kamet, English mountaineer Frank Smythe found the idyllic Bhyundar Valley in 1937. It is an 8 km long frigid trek in Chamoli Garhwal surrounded by snow-covered mountains with about 500 species of blossoms covering the area. Also, according to Hindu mythology, this valley is called Nandankanan that originated when the heavenly beings showered flowers on it.

In 1982, it was announced as National Park, that picked up omnipresence among avid trekkers. The Valley of Flowers has now become one of the most bizarre areas in India.

 

About the Trek

This moderate trek will begin with an uphill drive at Haridwar passing through Devprayag and Joshimath. The whole trip will present you with panoramic snow-clad mountain views. While trekking, you will be crossing dense oaks and pines forests, gushing waterfalls and rivers, and quaint towns that will add on to the adventure.

The highlight of this trek is your chance to see the rare species of flowers, dense meadows, and an assortment of flora at the Valley of Flowers. The mind-soothing fragrances emanating from the flowers and their alluring sight will urge you not to leave the gorgeous place!

You will also visit Hemkund Sahib Gurudwara, which is encompassed by seven mountain summits and a glacial lake.

Itinerary

Day 1 : Drive Haridwar Railway Station to Govindghat

In the morning, our travel instructor will meet you at Haridwar Railway Station to transfer you to Govindghat. During your drive, you will be rewarded with the beautiful pictures of Ganga and Alaknanda rivers. Also, you will traverse Rishikesh, Dev Prayag, and Rudra Prayag.

Reach Govindgath and spend the rest of the time at leisure.

Day 2 : Trek Govindghat to Ghangria

Today begin your real trekking adventure. After early morning breakfast, you will head to trek through woodland regions and villages. During the trail, you will view beautiful cascade, snow-clad mountains, and verdant scenes.

Arrive at Ghangria and spend the rest of the time wandering around the picturesque town.

Altitude: 3050 m

Duration: About 5 hrs

Day 3 : Trek Ghangria to Valley of Flowers and back to Ghangria

Today you will trek towards the surreal Valley of Flowers. You will ascend to the valley that has a moderate slope. Further, hike along the dense forest while admiring the mesmerizing panorama of Nar Parvat at the left. The vast pastures lined up with vivid alpine flowers, lofty mountains, and several rivers will enhance the charm of your trail.

Finally, land at Valley of Flowers, where you get to spot a plethora of flowers, including Himalayan Rose, Geraniums, Blue Poppy, the cobra lily, the Dog Flower, and many more in different vibrant colors.

This whole trekking route is candy to the eyes.

After a few hours of strolling around this beautiful location, you will return to the basecamp at Ghangria.

Duration: About 5 hrs

Day 4 : Ghangaria to Hemkund Sahib and back to Ghangaria

Today you will trek towards Hemkund Sahib, which is a revered Sikh Shrine. You will trek on some steep slopes to reach this destination. On landing at Hemkund Sahib, devote some time at Gurudwara and unwind by the stunning nearby glacial lake dotted with wildflowers.

You can also head to Laxman Mandir nestled adjacent to the Gurudwara. By noon, retrace to Ghangria.

Overnight stay at camp.

Altitude: 4329 m

Duration: About 7 hours

Day 5 : Trek Ghangria to Govindghat

Trek back to Govindghat following the same route today. On arriving at Govindghat, you can take a dip in sulfur water pools or enjoy a breath of fresh air around it. It is an engrossing location to enjoy some serenity.

Day 6 : Drive Govindghat to Haridwar

After breakfast, our tour representative will drop you at Haridwar railway station. Take back with you the memories of your heavenly trek to Valley of Flowers.
